The University of Western Australia Motorsport project team (UWAM) consists of a team in excess of 20 volunteer students who work together to conceive, design, build, test & race a vehicle to compete in Formula SAE competitions world-wide. The project gives students the opportunity to develop their technical, time-management and interpersonal skills, as well as developing experience in organising, managing, and financing an engineering enterprise. This experience does not normally form part of a student's degree programs.
The UWA Motorsport team have competed at competitions in Australia since 2001, and have won the event twice, taken the trophy for Engineering Design four times, and collected more than thirty trophies for individual events. The team have also competed at Formula SAE championships in Michigan, winning the event in 2008 (and with it the World Championship) after being runners-up twice, collecting two Engineering Design trophies and more than thirty other prizes. We have additionally attended the Formula Student Germany competition, placing third overall in 2009. Among the additional awards that the team has won are seven for design innovation.
